Jeremy Sugg
Jeremy Sugg is a business and commercial litigator who enjoys “getting into the weeds” to help his clients find solutions to their complex legal matters. There is always an answer and Jeremy will not stop digging until he finds it.
Jeremy prides himself on being particularly analytical and capable of breaking down the most complex factual patterns and legal matters into digestible answers that can be used to advise his clients on their rights, obligations, and advisable courses of action. When it becomes necessary, Jeremy uses these same skills to present his client’s case in court in a clear and compelling manner.
Jeremy makes use of the most up-to-date technology to stay organized, provide cost-effective services to clients, and advocate for his clients before judges and juries.
Jeremy’s practice areas include business torts, including breaches of fiduciary duty, unfair and deceptive trade practices, business defamation, tortious interference claims, and trade secrets protection. Jeremy regularly handles claims for breach of contract arising out of all manner of agreements, including those between business owners (such as operating agreements and shareholder agreements), employers and employees (including non-competes and confidentiality agreements), construction contracts, insurance coverage contracts, financing agreements, leases, and other commercial agreements.
Jeremy uses his experience in business disputes to assist business owners in separating their interests (sometimes referred to as a “business divorce”), with or without the need for litigation. Jeremy also regularly prosecutes and defends derivative claims on behalf of businesses and their members or shareholders.
Jeremy has extensive experience in complex discovery disputes, including the use of 28 U.S.C. § 1782 to obtain discovery for use in foreign proceedings.
Jeremy is a lifelong North Carolinian; born and raised in the small town of Rockingham. After graduating from law school, Jeremy returned to his hometown and began his practice trying cases in criminal court. He then spent ten years litigating all manner of cases across the state on behalf of clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 companies. Jeremy’s breadth of experience allows him to identify potential risks for his clients and provide practical solutions.
Jeremy enjoys spending time with his wife, Lindsay, a Spanish teacher at Providence Day School, and their two girls, Emery and Stella. Jeremy continually strives for self-improvement and loves to learn, whether that be staying active in the gym, on the mats, or outdoors, picking up a guitar for the first time at the age of 42, or stepping on the stage for an improv class.
