MARK A. JONES
Mark A. Jones is a board-certified specialist who heads Bell, Davis & Pitt’s Government Investigation, General Federal Defense, and White Collar / Business Crimes sections.
Before joining the firm, Mark served as both a trial and appellate Assistant U.S. Attorney, where he represented the Unites States in federal court investigations, prosecutions, and appeals.
While serving as Chair of the North Carolina State Bar Criminal Law Specialty Committee, Mark led the establishment of the stand-alone Federal Criminal Law sub-specialty.
Mark is currently the representative from the Middle District of North Carolina to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit’s Criminal Justice Act Panel Committee. He also serves as an Executive Board member of the Middle District of North Carolina’s Federal Bar Association.
Mark’s extensive federal court experience includes representing corporations and individuals in both civil and criminal cases, including:
- Mail, Wire, Bank, Securities, Health Care, Loan, and Tax Fraud Matters
- Securities and Exchange Commission Matters
- Federal and State Forfeitures
- Federal Constitutional Litigation and Appeals
Mark also represents whistleblowers (individuals who are personally aware of a fraud being perpetrated against the federal or state government) in pursuing qui tam suits and/or claims under the False Claims Acts.
Mark received his law degree with honors from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. While there, Mark was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal, a senior-primary editor of the Georgetown Law Journal's Annual Review of Criminal Procedure (ARCP). He also worked for CQPress, covering the United States Supreme Court.
