Jones P. Byrd Jr.
Jones focuses his law practice on criminal defense in both state and federal courts. He represents individuals charged with a range of offenses including homicides, firearms offenses, drug offenses, sex crimes, impaired driving offenses, juvenile offenses, and nearly any other circumstance that brings a person into the orbit of the criminal justice system. He regularly assists clients during investigations preceding a charging decision and with collateral consequences of a brush with the court system, including those affecting professional licensure and DMV issues.
Jones has also represented many clients in school disciplinary matters, Title IX defense, and other similar cases where a person is being investigated for alleged misconduct in an educational setting. Jones’ clients in these cases have included both students and faculty/administrators in both college and high school settings.
Jones is admitted to practice in state court, as well as all three federal districts in North Carolina. He is a member of the Forsyth County Bar and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ), where he belongs to the Criminal Defense Section. He has served in a number of positions within the Forsyth County Bar, including a term as President, and as Chair of the Ethics and Grievance Committee. He has served as the Chair of the Small Practice Section of the NCAJ, and has been included in the Super Lawyers and Business North Carolina Legal Elite publications for many years.
Jones is a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem, where he has served on the Outreach Funding Advisory Committee for several years. He and his wife Whitney have two wonderful daughters and love seeing our community through their ever-changing eyes. Jones grew up in Asheville and attended Wake Forest for both undergraduate and law school. He enjoys running, riding bikes, reading, cooking, seeing live music, and collecting records.
