2022 Bell, Davis & Pitt Summer Clerkship Program Complete: Celebrating Summer Law Clerks Nicholas Tremps and Kaylie Jessup
This week marks the completion of the 2022 Bell, Davis & Pitt Summer Clerkship program. Traditionally summer law clerkship programs give law students the opportunity to work alongside attorneys and legal professionals assisting them in assembling case materials, preparing legal drafts, researching law, writing reports, and conducting client interviews. As any law student will tell you, the completion of a clerkship is a career hallmark worth celebrating. For summer 2022, we had the delightful opportunity to welcome rising second year Wake Forest University Law students Nicholas Tremps and Kaylie Jessup. With their clerkships drawing to a close, we sat down with Nick and Kaylie to chat about their experiences. Here is a look into what they shared:
Nicholas Tremps
What drew you to the study of law?
As a U.S. Government major, Nick was drawn to law school out of the passion he has for community. He hopes that, by understanding the interworking of our governmental and legal systems, he can create change in the communities in which he lives and serves.
To date, what has been your biggest challenge with regards to law school?
Getting back into school mode post-undergrad.
What do you hope to take away from your experience here at BDP?
A more practical sense of how law works; the theory versus the application.
What practice areas most excite you?
Real Estate and Appellate work.
To date what have you enjoyed most about your summer clerkship?
Meeting and getting to know all the attorneys who have been helpful and insightful. Learning more about the attorneys’ work.
What advice would you have for those considering law school?
Be prepared to treat it like a full-time job!
When you are not studying law, what do you enjoy doing?
Spending time with my wife and dog. Cooking, especially grilling seafood!
What would you consider to be a fun fact about yourself?
I am a former professional golfer.
Kaylie Jessup
What drew you to the study of law?
As a business enterprise management major and psychology and music minor, Kaylie was drawn to the transactional aspects of law.Â
To date, what has been your biggest challenge with regards to law school?
Law school is very different than undergrad; there is a learning curve in your first year as you learn to allocate your time accordingly to create balance. You must be very intentional with your time.
What do you hope to take away from your experience here at BDP?
Exposure to the many aspects of law and life as an attorney within all practice areas.
To date what have you enjoyed most about your summer clerkship?
The people and environment here at BDP. Everyone has been approachable, excited to teach, and provide one-on-one attention.
What advice would you have for those considering law school?
Do it! Approach law school with the perspective that you are there for the experience, not just the achievement.
When you are not studying law, what do you enjoy doing?
Playing the piano and singing. Enjoying time outdoors.
What would you consider to be a fun fact about yourself?
I have a plant collection of over 30 individual plants.
